Wellness Wednesday
Navigating the pre-medical experience can be a stressful time. While it is important to stay on top of studies and opportunities, it is also important to make sure you are taking mental health breaks.
This weekly series seeks to connect the AMSA community with the different ways our members take care of their well-being.

Junior, PR Committee Member
“When I feel overwhelmed with my course work or the application process, I watch day-in-my-life videos from students already in medical school. They allow me to visualize what my days could look like as I reach my goals which helps me stay motivated.”

Chloe Aglietti
Senior, PR Co-Chair
“When I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I usually take a step back and do something completely unrelated to school or work. Sometimes that means working out, going for a walk, or cooking. Taking a little time to myself helps me rest and clear my head before getting back into what I need to do.”

Heather Stephenson
Senior, PR Co-Chair
“I like to set specific times where I won’t do any work. Usually for me this will be some point on the weekends or when I’m eating dinner. Even if I’m not finished with an assignment, this time will be focused on relaxing. This gives me time to take a break and rest!”

“I like to set up a time each week to call my sister for a couple hours. I enjoy being able to talk to her about my week and reflect on everything that I accomplished. This is a great opportunity for me to step away from my work and connect with someone that will always boost my mood.”

Sasha Kazysta
Junior, VCR Committee Member
“Take it slow. Winding down by popping on a Youtube video while working through a puzzle is peak relaxation for me (besides napping). It’s a great activity to immerse yourself in if you find yourself fixating too much on work.”

Emily Campos
Sophomore, PR Committee Member
“When I am feeling stressed, I text my friends and ask if anyone is available to do something fun. Whether this is getting a sweet treat or simply hanging out in someone’s apartment, it gives me a chance to step away from my school work. I am able to have a good laugh with my favorite people and reset. No matter how busy school gets, I always make an effort to see friends.”
